Anyone have any screenshots they can toss up? And there's also a BMW 3 from the first , or the second generation in the US and Canada during the destruction of NYC which fly over because of the enormous explosion!

There are other missing cars such as two Oldsmobiles: a grey Delta 88 4dr sedan from which has been crushed by another car which flied over because of the giant firewall and crashed upon it, and a red one probably a Cutlass coupe or another Delta 88, even a Custom Cruiser wagon which flies over because of the firewalls which destroy L.

What about the fire department ladder truck that is seen flying in middair during the destruction of one of the cities? Okay, probably a different cut of the film.

Validated most of Police Car Fan's submissions. The ones I've left I'm not sure are worth listing because they're only half visible and the SUV behind the police car is a bit blurry -- Last edit: The red Honda Prelude could be kept.

An alien mothership suddenly appears, [11] responding to the distress call, and proceeds to destroy much of Earth's planetary defense systems before landing over the North Atlantic Ocean , where it starts to drill down toward Earth's molten core.

Narrowly escaping death, those on board the space tug are able to avoid capture and return to Area Whitmore, Levinson, and U. General Joshua Adams' groups interrogate one of the aliens held in captivity at Area 51's prison facility from the war.

They learn that the aliens exist in a hivemind and that one of their colossal Queens is commanding the invasion. Levinson hypothesizes that if they kill the supervising Queen, her forces will cease drilling and go dormant.

In Area 51, Okun opens the rescued container and releases a giant white sphere of virtual intelligence. The sphere reveals that her mission is to evacuate survivors to a planet of refuge from worlds targeted by the aliens, whom she calls "Harvesters", and unite them in an attack on the Harvesters' planet.

In the mothership, all surviving ESD pilots manage to escape by hijacking enemy craft; Dylan, Jake, Charlie, and Rain navigate two Harvester fighters to pursue the Queen's personal ship, which is heading to Area 51 to extract information from the sphere about the refugee planet.

Knowing that the Harvester Queen has become aware of the sphere's location, the ESD hide her in an isolation chamber and use a decoy in Jake's space tug to lure the Harvester Queen's ship into a trap.

Whitmore volunteers to pilot the transport ship on a suicide mission , leading the Queen's ship into a trap before detonating a bomb, thus destroying the enemy ship by sacrificing himself.

However, the Harvester Queen survives by using an energy shield and a battle breaks out. Initially, the ESD soldiers' weapons cannot penetrate the Queen's shield, but after the Harvester Queen lowers her shield to fire her own weapon, a critical hit by Whitmore's daughter Patricia deactivates her shield.

This allows Dylan's party, which arrives just in time, to kill her before she can take the sphere. With the Queen gone, all the remaining alien fighters are rendered inactive, while the mothership stops drilling and retreats to space.

Okun reveals that the sphere has asked humanity to lead her resistance and has offered them new technology in preparation for a potential counterattack on the Harvesters' home world.

The possibility of a sequel to Independence Day had been discussed as early as , [12] and the film's producer and writer, Dean Devlin , once stated that the world's reaction to the September 11 attacks influenced him to strongly consider making a sequel to the film.

Emmerich, however, made assurances that the films would be shot back-to-back , regardless of Smith's involvement. The new films will focus on the next generation of heroes, including the stepson of Smith's character in the original film.

Early on, both Emmerich and Devlin hoped that Smith would return. On January 27, , casting began with Fox offering the lead role to Liam Hemsworth.

Fox would reprise the role of Jasmine Dubrow, her character from the previous film. Esprit was cast as Secretary of Defense Tanner.

Filming began on April 20, , [49] [50] and wrapped on August 22, However, while location filming did take place in rural New Mexico and further north on the Utah and Nevada border, most of the shooting was studio-based.

Emmerich decided to return to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah , which he said he fell in love with while looking for a unique location for shooting the first film.

However, problems cropped up as Emmerich was slightly disappointed by the nature and color of the area. This was because prior to the arrival of the crew, a windstorm had occurred around the area, which blew a lot of dirt into the salt and subsequently turned it into a shade of beige.

The filmmakers refrained from shooting in India or portraying any prominent Indian monuments as being damaged to avoid potential protests and legal action from Indian religious groups and activists.

However, following the November Paris attacks , filmmakers reconsidered and instead had Dubai land on London. Emmerich said, "After the attacks, we felt it wasn't right to have the Burj Khalifa crashing on the Eiffel Tower , so we dumped it on the London Eye instead.

The English can take it. While the original film relied heavily on miniatures and Engel wanted them on at least one scene, the effects were mostly computer-generated "which was pretty much less than half of the budget".

Uncharted Territory, along with coordinating the overall efforts of 15 effects houses, was the leading company with shots, created in a tight collaboration with the film's art department.

Scanline VFX was the first vendor hired, [25] and handled the mothership landing, which included creating detailed models of London and Singapore out of thousands of reference photographs and even Lidar scans to realistically destroy both cities.

The film's music was composed by Thomas Wander and Harald Kloser. Much of the themes and style of David Arnold , who worked on the score for first film, was kept.

The film was originally going to be released on July 3, [60] but on November 12, , it was announced that the sequel had been rescheduled for a July release.

Titan Books published several tie-in books for the film, including novels and comics. Crucible serves as a prequel to the film and was published on May 24, A novelization of Independence Day: Resurgence by Alex Irvine followed on June 21 before the film's release and it differs from the film in that the character of the President survives most of the alien conflict as a prisoner of the Harvester Queen and is killed when the ship is destroyed, instead of being killed when the aliens attack the fortified bunker in Colorado and it also reveals - in POV exposition, during the scene where the Queen captures the sphere - that the sphere aliens are responsible for the creation of the Harvester aliens, who turned on them and wiped them out, though this plot device is not further explored in the book and may not be considered canon in any further films since it was not used in the final film.

Titan Comics started a six issue comic book miniseries, Independence Day: Dark Fathom , written by Victor Gischler , with art by Tazio Bettin, which serves as a prequel set between the first and second films, and which began its run on March 23 and ended on June On December 13, , the first trailer was released by 20th Century Fox.

A commercial for the U. Army aired promoting the film by presenting itself as a commercial for the ESD, or Earth Space Defense, a fictional military faction dedicated to defending the Earth against any further alien invasion.

It was not even one of the top-grossing films of or of its month of release, due to Finding Dory being the highest-grossing film of June.

The film also failed to garner much support from China — the world's second biggest movie market — as the cinemagoers there complained about how little screen time there was for Chinese actress Angelababy.

Moreover, the film was released in a crowded summer amidst "sequelitis," in which numerous major sequels underperformed.

Internationally, the film fared better and was released across 58 countries — The site's critical consensus reads, "It's undeniably visually impressive, but like its predecessor, Independence Day: Resurgence lacks enough emotional heft to support its end-of-the-world narrative stakes.

Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. It's just dumb. Club criticized the film as an example of Hollywood's current business model of "preemptive franchising," stating that "The movie's dips into all-out space opera interstellar travel, more alien species, etc.

Dan Jolin of Empire gave the film a positive review, saying it was "spectacular as you'd hope from a sequel to the planet-toaster, and as amusingly cheesy.

You'll enjoy yourself enough that you won't even miss Will Smith. While its plot is messy and it's stuffed with too many characters, I dare you not to leave the theatre with a guilt-free smile on your face.

Haas of The Mercury News gave the film a mediocre review, saying that "It was okay. In June , during an interview with Empire magazine, Emmerich stated that a third film could be made, depending on the success of the second one.

He also said that audiences would not have to wait as long as they did for the second in the series. I don't know.

Currently, I personally have no plans of doing another one. Roland Emmerich has stated that he still hopes that Disney will make the third movie in one of the recent interview on Cinemablend.

Emmerich and Devlin decided to expand on the idea by incorporating a large-scale attack, with Devlin saying he was bothered by the fact that "for the most part, in alien invasion movies, they come down to Earth and they're hidden in some back field …[o]r they arrive in little spores and inject themselves into the back of someone's head.

A then-record 3,plus special effects shots would ultimately be required for the film. The production's model-making department built more than twice as many miniatures for the production than had ever been built for any film before by creating miniatures for buildings, city streets, aircraft, landmarks, and monuments.

An explosion would be ignited below the model, and flames would rise towards the camera, engulfing the tilted model and creating the rolling "wall of destruction" look seen in the film.

The film's aliens were designed by production designer Patrick Tatopoulos. The actual aliens in the film are diminutive and based on a design Tatopoulos drew when tasked by Emmerich to create an alien that was "both familiar and completely original".

Immediately before filming the scene, Devlin and Pullman decided to add "Today, we celebrate our Independence Day! At the time, the production was nicknamed "ID4" because Warner Bros.

The production team moved to the Bonneville Salt Flats to film three scenes, then returned to California to film in various places around Los Angeles, including Hughes Aircraft where sets for the cable company and Area 51 interiors were constructed at a former aircraft plant.

Sets for the latter included corridors containing windows that were covered with blue material. The filmmakers originally intended to use the chroma key technique to make it appear as if an activity was happening on the other side of the glass, but the composited images were not added to the final print because production designers decided the blue panels gave the sets a "clinical look".

The film initially depicted Russell Casse being rejected as a volunteer for the July 4 aerial counteroffensive because of his alcoholism.

He then uses a stolen missile tied to his red biplane to carry out his suicide mission. According to Dean Devlin, test audiences responded well to the scene's irony and comedic value.

The Grammy Award -winning [32] score for the film was composed by David Arnold and recorded with an orchestra of 90, a choir of 46, "and every last ounce of stereotypical Americana he could muster for the occasion".

RCA released a minute album at the time of the film's release, then in , La-La Land Records released a limited-edition, two-disc CD set that comprised the complete score plus 12 alternate cues.

Fox's Licensing and Merchandising division also entered into co-promotional deals with Apple Inc.

The co-marketing project was dubbed "The Power to Save the World" campaign, in which the company used footage of David using his PowerBook laptop in their print and television advertisements.

The film was marketed with several taglines, including: "We've always believed we weren't alone. On July 4, we'll wish we were", "Earth.

Take a good look. It could be your last", and "Don't make plans for August". The weekend before the film's release, the Fox Network aired a half-hour special on the film, the first third of which was a spoof news report on the events that happen in the film.

Roger Ebert attributed most of the film's early success to its teaser trailers and marketing campaigns, acknowledging them as "truly brilliant".

It became available on DVD on June 27, , and has since been re-released, in several different versions of this format, with varying supplemental material, including one instance where it was packaged with a lenticular cover.

In Lebanon , certain Jewish- and Israel-related content in the film was censored. One cut scene involved Judd Hirsch's character donning a kippah , and leading soldiers and White House officials in a Jewish prayer.

Other removed footage showed Israeli and Arab troops working together in preparation for countering the alien invasion. The Lebanese Shi'a Islamist militant group Hezbollah called for Muslims to boycott the film, describing it as "propaganda for the so-called genius of the Jews and their concern for humanity.

The film is not about American Jews saving the world; it's about teamwork among people of different religions and nationalities to defeat a common enemy.

The film had both its twentieth anniversary and premiere at a special live-orchestral screening performance at the Royal Albert Hall on September 22, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , conducted by the original orchestrator Nicholas Dodd, performed the score live [60] during the film, and the film's composer, David Arnold , was a presenter at the event.

Hoping to capitalize on the film's success, several studios released large-scale disaster films , [65] and the already rising interest in science fiction-related media was further increased by the film's popularity.

A month after the film's release, jewelry designers and marketing consultants reported an increased interest in dolphin -themed jewelry, as the character Jasmine Vivica A.

Fox wears dolphin earrings, and is presented with a wedding ring featuring a gold dolphin. The site's critical consensus reads, "The plot is thin and so is character development, but as a thrilling, spectacle-filled summer movie, Independence Day delivers.

Critics wrote that the film has "cardboard" and "stereotypical" characters, [3] [46] [70] [71] [72] and weak dialogue. The script is witty, knowing, cool.

However, the film's nationalistic overtones were widely criticized by reviewers outside the U. Movie Review UK described the film as "a mish-mash of elements from a wide variety of alien invasion movies and gung-ho American jingoism.

Several critics expressed disappointment with the quality of the film's special effects. Newsweek ' s David Ansen claimed the special effects were of no better caliber than those seen nineteen years earlier in Star Wars.

American Film Institute lists. Disaster elements portrayed in Independence Day represented a significant turning point for Hollywood blockbuster films.

With advancements in CGI special effects, events depicting mass destruction became commonplace in films that soon followed, such as Armageddon and Deep Impact The trend continued throughout the s and s, evident in films such as Emmerich's The Day After Tomorrow , as well as Transformers and The Avengers Author Stephen Molstad wrote a tie-in novel to help promote the film shortly before its release.

The novel goes into further detail on the characters, situations, and overall concepts not explored in the film.

The novel presents the film's finale as originally scripted, with the character played by Randy Quaid stealing a missile and roping it to his cropduster biplane.

Following the film's success, a prequel novel entitled Independence Day: Silent Zone was written by Molstad in February Brackish Okun. A Marvel comic book was also written based on the first two novelizations.

Dean Devlin gave Maggs permission to produce an original version, on the condition that he did not reveal certain details of the movie's plot, and that the British were not depicted as saving the day.

In a "behind-the-scenes" multimedia CD-ROM titled Inside Independence Day was released for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh ; it includes storyboards for the film, sketches, movie clips, and a preview of the Independence Day video game.

Emmerich, however, made assurances that the films would be shot back-to-back , regardless of Smith's involvement. This would be a stand-alone sequel, that would not split into two parts as originally planned, with filming beginning in May and casting being done after the studio locked down Emmerich as the director of the film.

With respect to Smith's decision not to return to film a sequel, Emmerich told Screen Crush that: "In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story After Earth , so he opted out.

Thanks for your vote! We truly appreciate your support. The film was released worldwide on July 3, , but began showing on July 2 the same day the film's story begins in limited release as a result of a high level of anticipation among moviegoers.

The film also became the second-highest-grossing film ever at the time , behind Jurassic Park A sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence , was released 20 years later on June 24, , making up the first part of a planned series of films.

On July 2, , an enormous mothership orbits around Earth, deploying assault fortress saucers, each with a fifteen-mile radius, that take positions over Earth's major cities.

David Levinson, an MIT -trained satellite technician, decodes a signal embedded within global satellite transmissions, realizing it is the aliens' countdown timer for a coordinated attack.

The saucers fire destructive beams , causing massive explosions that kill millions. Whitmore, the Levinsons, and a few others narrowly escape aboard Air Force One as the capital is destroyed, along with the other locations over which the city-destroying warships are positioned.

On July 3, counterattacks against the alien invaders begin worldwide, but their warships are shielded by force fields.

Each saucer launches a swarm of attack fighters with their own shields as well, which decimate the human fighter squadrons and military bases.

Captain Steven Hiller, one of the mission's squadron leaders with the United States Marine Corps based out of El Toro , survives by luring his attacker to the enclosed spaces of the Grand Canyon before ejecting from his plane safely, causing the enemy fighter to crash-land.

He subdues the downed alien and flags down a convoy of refugees, hitching a ride with former combat pilot Russell Casse.

They transport the unconscious alien to Area 51 , where Whitmore's group has landed. Secretary of Defense Albert Nimzicki has revealed that a faction of the government has been involved in a UFO conspiracy since , when one of the invaders' attack fighters crashed in Roswell.

Area 51 houses the now-refurbished alien fighter, and three alien corpses recovered from the crash. As scientist Dr. Brackish Okun examines the alien captured by Steven, it regains consciousness and attacks, telepathically invading Okun's mind and killing other personnel.

It uses Okun's vocal cords to reject Whitmore's offer of peace before launching a psychic attack against him.

After Secret Service agents and military personnel kill the alien, Whitmore reveals what he learned when they were linked: the invaders plan to strip Earth of natural resources.

He reluctantly authorizes a nuclear attack against one warship situated above Houston as a trial, but it remains intact. Though they are later found by Steven and taken to Area 51, Marilyn dies shortly after being reunited with her family.

On July 4 , David writes a computer virus as a means to deactivate the aliens' shields, and devises a plan to do this by uploading it into the mothership from the refurbished alien fighter, which Steven volunteers to pilot.

The U. With military pilots in short supply, Whitmore and General William Grey enlist the help of volunteers with flight experience, including Russell, to fly the remaining jets at Area 51; and the former leads an attack on a warship bearing down on the base.

Entering the mothership, Steven and David upload the virus and deploy a nuclear missile on board, nullifying the aliens' communications system and reinforcements after the ship is destroyed.

With the aliens' shields deactivated, Whitmore's squadron is able to combat the enemy fighters, but their ammunition is exhausted before they can destroy the saucer.

As it prepares to fire on the base, Russell has one last missile, but is unable to fire due to a launcher malfunction; he sacrifices his own life by crashing his jet with the missile into the saucer's weapon, which destroys the warship completely.

Human military forces worldwide are notified of the alien ships' critical point and successfully destroy the others. As humanity is rejoicing in victory, Steven and David return to Area 51 unharmed and reunite with their families.

The idea for the film came when Emmerich and Devlin were in Europe promoting their film Stargate. A reporter asked Emmerich why he made a film with content like Stargate if he did not believe in aliens.

Emmerich stated he was still fascinated by the idea of an alien arrival, and further explained his response by asking the reporter to imagine what it would be like to wake up one morning and to discover 15 mile-wide spaceships were hovering over the world's largest cities.

Emmerich then turned to Devlin and said, "I think I have an idea for our next film.
